If you noticed, I didn’t publish a post yesterday because I decided to do something different this week. This is my first ever weekend roundup post—where I gather all the content I’ve read over this week and inspire you to live more like Jesus.
I decided to do this because I believe there are many writers and content creators out there who share a glimpse of what it means to live like Jesus without even realizing it. Without knowing, they can share something about living intentionally and heroically without meaning for it to inspire people toward living like Jesus.
Even when we read articles today, we don’t necessarily look for nuggets of wisdom on what it means to live like Jesus. We instead search for the content we expect from the article.
This isn’t bad. But imagine how your day (or even week) would look if you learned something new and practical about Jesus from your routine of blog reading.
We need a filter from the noise—a way to engage and consume content that encourages us to live more intentionally and heroically, like Jesus, in our every day lives.
That’s what I hope to do with this weekend roundup. I hope to shine a spotlight on all the glimpses of living like Jesus present in blogs and magazines around the Internet.
These were the articles that inspired me to live like Jesus this week. Sit back, grab a cup of tea, and let this content refuel you for the week to come.
1. The Most Underrated Sound in Our Society | Becoming Minimalist by Joshua Becker
Today, we talk about silence as something we fear or can’t stand (for example, the “awkward silence”). But Jesus valued silence in His life. He intentionally sought it. It’s time we stop fearing silence and learn to embrace it, like Jesus.
2. The Millennial “Adulthood” Delusion | Millennial Evangelical by Chris Martin
Many articles place adulthood as being about self-empowerment—and this is why millennials aren’t growing up. What we need instead is to be encouraged toward self-sacrifice—a principle Jesus teaches us over and over again. Once we adopt self-sacrifice as a value in life, then we can start living more heroically like Jesus. That’s mature living.
3. Freedom from the Media Monster | The Rising by Rachel Dawson
Rachel Dawson is one of my favorite up and coming writers (check out her blog and see why!). She’s honest about the struggles facing our generation. In this article, she reminds us all that we are not captive to our technology and that it’s possible to live a simpler and more intentional life. I bet that’s what Jesus wants to remind us of also.
4. Why It’s More Important You Slow Down than Hurry Up | Storyline by Cadence Turpin
In the same vain as the last article, this article states we need more activities that require our time and presence to show we are not mastered by our to-do lists and technology. Slowing down is a spiritual discipline because it reminds us who’s truly in control—God.
5. 3 Forces that Shape Character | Michael Hyatt by Michael Hyatt
I refer to this article as a resource from time to time. It shows what truly influences our character, which is important if we want to be intentional about living like Jesus. Jesus continually shows us that it is our character that matters, not what we do. As Michael Hyatt says in this article, “Effective leadership is an inside-out job.”
Thanks for reading this far everyone. I covered a lot in this weekend reads. I promise the next few will be shorter. Enjoy your reading and your weekend.
P.S. If an article inspired you to live more like Jesus this week, share it in the comments!
